I don't see how Wd40 would attract less dirt than any given ArmorAll type product. I've heard of people using it, but there is a chance of it being harmful to certain materials within the engine bay.

Be sure to cover that up with a plastic bag or something. You surely don't want water getting into the engine.

I use CD2 Engine Cleaner because I'm lazy. I'll take a picture of the box. No scrubbing, only $6.
