Ok I have read a ton of posts on this subject and everyone seems to have a different take on what year has which type of cupholders?

I think I understand that the MTX came with 1 and the ATX came with 2. Then I started hearing about one which you pull/slide up and is of better build quality.

Also I have looked on www.car-parts.com and they don't have a listing for console, is it under something else. Doesn't seem to be anything even remotely close either?

Also anything else I should know feel free to add!

Thanks

Sorry, not sure about the cupholder thing...never could figure out which model came with what, but I may be able to help out with some other questions.

1)you can use either MTX or ATX consoles. If you get an ATX you will need to call bill jenkins and order the MTX surround, it goes for ~20 IIRC

2)There is no way to really look up the console on car-part.com so I just look for any interior piece of the tour and then call the junkyard and ask if they have a center console available. I've been quoted about $70 from a couple places, one guy got his for $40 so I guess there are deals to had

3)Make sure you get the panels that cover up the all the ducts behind the console. When I originally ordered my console they sent it without the panels and I ended up having to argue with the damn people all day, finally got em though!

4)Before you paint the console make sure to use a good vinyl/interior cleaner. This part is really crucial because it removes all the oils and residue from the console and gives the paint a good surface to stick to. I found mine at a local automotive paint store.

HTH

I don't know what to believe either. I will tell you though that I have a 97 ATX. My car came from the factory w/ the 1 single cupholder that you have to pull/slide, as you put it. I've also been told that it was a cougar cupholder too, but like I said, it came that way! I can take some pics of it later if you'd like a look at it. smile

I know for a fact that you could always interchange the diff cupholder styles if you don't like the ones your console came with, they all have the same shape...Bill Jenkins may be able to help you out, don't know for sure if they're available or not though

95 Contour GL MTX = 2 slide/pop up cupholders(one broke so I bought a new cupholder for it and it is only one slide/popup cupholder.
