Would it not have been cheaper for them to just import the Mondeo over here in the first place instead of redesigning it and building it over here?

I believe they had to redesign some parts to pass tests in the US/Canada. I don't think the Mondeo can pass the tests as it was.

MK1 Mondeo actually has more emissions control stuff on it than the US contour so I dont think thats why they didn't import it.

More likely Ford didn't want you guys to have a high performance car that did 40 mpg. Otherwise they would have had to own up and admit that all the US cars were detuned to use more gas

Go to madmole's webpage, I think he has quite a few links to places where you can get the bodykit. But they won't bolt on, and that's why I started this thread. I wanna know if I can make it fit if I get the entire front end.

While the Mondeo and Contour have very significant compononentry, they are in fact different cars, and intedned for different markets. In Europe the Mondeo was/is an upscale (similar to a Crown Vic or Chrysler LH market perception - not Mercedes/BMW) vehicle. All the bells and whistles, including heated seats and seperate climate conrols were options. In the US, the Contour was marketed towards the low end of the spectrum, Escort & Sunfire replacements for people who needed more room, but weren't ready/able to afford the Camry/Taurus.

Also, pricing was a key, in the US a mid/high level Contour could be had for $15K. An equvalent Mondeo in the U.K. was about 18,000GBP ($28,900). Finally, bear in mind that in Europe, the Mondeo is a large car, in the US the Contour is a small/mid size.

ONe final point - the chick in the silver shorts is almost stereotypical; very nice legs, nice booty, nice chest, but she might be in need of a few pints to classify her as realy hot. wink

Here is a pic of a stock RS fron end...
