First off, i used search and found multiple (mostly vague and unconfirmed solutions) to stripping the wax without doing harm to the paint. The two that were suggested the most were using a light dish detergent (Dawn, Joy, etc) or just using hot water. With both...some people agreed that it worked very well and gave a clean finish, but others said both these methods can possibly damage the paint (drying it out, stripping the clear coat, etc). So, what is the "up-to-date" consensus?

Dawn. When used only so often, it does not damage the paint. It cannot strip the clearcaot as that's just another layer of paint. Use Dawn once, then a clay bar, then start your wax/polish.

That is the first step in the Zaino line, and if is recommended by them, it won't hurt your car. I do this for my first handwash after the winter season.

Don't worry, you won't strip off your clear coat unless you use something abrasive.

This wouldn't be an "offical" detailing post if I didn't check in w/ a Mequiars reset...either use body scrub or cleaner, which is the 1st step in the Mequiars process. Also believe it or not theres another cleaner/wax that I've used with STUNNING results...Zymol wink Now it does produce alittle resedue when taking it off, but the Zymol is some good stuff.

There is some stuff that painters use that works pretty good. It removes grease and wax. Go to any automotive paint store and ask for Grease and wax remover and they should get you what you need no probs.
