I really think it is extremely unlikely that you will come out ahead finacially by spending $25,000 or whatever on another car. If you get say a 5 year loan you will be paying $5000 per year plus average of maybe about another $1000 per year in interest. If you keep the old car and spend even as much as $3000 per year repairing it you can save the other $15,000 toward your next car over that 5 year period.
My thoughts exactly. I plan on keeping any new vehicle a minimum of 8 years. If you perform regular maintenance and keep up on any minor repairs before they become major, you'll definitely have more cash in your pocket. IMHO most people change vehicles for asthetic reasons rather than for true utlility.

My $.02 ($1.65 Cdn)
Cheers

Thanks for the opinions guys. I think I'll be keeping the 'Tour. I like it WAY too much. If it ever lets me down you'll all be hearing questions from me!

Oasis report? Who do I ask?

I agree and there is nothing wrong with that...but many seem to want to believe that they are saving money by buying a new car.

The other common reason to get a new car would be because they do not like to have to deal with getting repairs on older car.

For me a new car comes when the old one just does not seem worth fixing any more...even though it might be cheaper to go that way. I figure 12 years for a new car...I have had two and both were gotten rid of after 12 years and about 120,000 miles. One had a lot of body damage and rust the other had every engine seal leaking (including blown head gasket) and all kinds of rattles.

I told my wife I want to go for 15 years with our third new vehicle, a 1997 Windstar. smile

Sorry, I forget, but either GM or FoMoCo will make a joint w/Subaru, aimed at a better, American branded WRX...coming out in 2004....wish I remembered details but it's a small-ish Vibe-type project with AWD and around 250-275 hp. Just what everyone is asking for, basically....if anyone else overheard this let me know.

98 CSVT, basic mod's, my slowest car yet but still faster than the wife's Talon Tsi AWD. Not by much, though. Now if I could get the back wheels to do something....
