i've got a patch behind my ding-guards i've just taken off!
about 2"x3", whats the best way to fix this? and my car is white, and it's on the drivers door edge

Well, you could sand it, prime, then paint. Or you could cut it out and weld some new metal and blend it. I'd take it to a shop. Too much work if you're not experienced. I draw the line on body work.

If you don't have money to take it to a shop, sand as much off as possible then use some "One-step" rust remover to stop it from spreading or getting any worse. Then primer it and use touch paint to cover it.
