I read this in the April edition of Motor Trend.
"Apparently prompted by competition in the form of the Grand Marquis-based Mercury Marauder, General Motors has approved importation of a version of the Australian-market Holden Commodore SS as the next Impala SS. The rear-drive sedan features a Corvette-spec (350-hp) Gen III 5.7L alloy V-8, six-speed manual gearbox, ABS, limited-slip differential, and 17in. 235/45 V-rated tires. This would seem to doom plans for an SS based on the current U.S.-market front-drive Impala---but that hardly weems like much of a loss."
As quoted from Motor Trend, page 28.

About time! That'll be my next car if they don't change the shape/look of the car and make it look like a hat-full of arseholes.
US car manufacturers have a bad habit of taking a good looking car and making it uglier. i.e. the Mondeo - Contour!

Now that is something I don't like to think about. Seriously this is good news. I can't see myself in a GM though.

Well, personally this still doesn't make a sports sedan. Sorry, but I want more than a 4-door Z28 Camaro.
If they see markets for these types of cars though, why can't they see the market for a SVT Contour-mold sports sedan in the $25-28K range?

If a six-speed, four-wheel indepdent suspension with 350 hp, and the physical size somewhere between a 3 series and 5 series BMW doesn't make it a "sports sedan", what does?

As I recall, the Commodore's a full sized car, not between the 3 and 5 series BMW, but bigger than even the 7...
