Has anyone done a successful touch up paint job? I've tried in the past to use touch up paint on chipped away spots, but it just didn't come out right. I hear the secret is to prep the area, use the touch up paint, smooth it down, then use clear coat. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, it'll be on some areas where the paint was chipped: the chipped parts are not that big, but big enough that I want to cover them up...

The secret to successful paint repair is prep and patience. Without ample amounts of either, it won't look right. Luckily you have a black car, which is one of the easiest to repair (metallics are nearly impossible to do right). I found this guide to be very helpful.

That article is very comprehensive. Even if you wish to skip some of the steps, it's still very useful. I fixed one spot with a "blob" of touch up paint and have regretted it ever since. A little patience does yield much more desirable results. Thank you for the link.
