I have an opportunity to have my grill painted black. I decided I would only do it if I could get the crome on the 98+ tours trunk lid painted as well. Does anyone know how to remove just the crome so that it is separated from the red reflective plastic? I'm afraid it might be glued on and if so will probably break when I try to pull it off. Also..how do you think it will look with blacked grill/trunk...with light blue body.

I am not sure how it is attached but if it is glue you can use a heat gun or blow dryer to soften the glue. Then you won't break it. Hope this helps. ------------------ Black E0 SVT #2239 K & N Induction Josh's SVT

Just have the guy who is painting it tape it off. I removed the whole reflector/plate assembly and left it at the shop when I had my grilles and chrome ring on the front painted. Thanks for the warning guys..I won't even try to peel it off. I don't even want to know how much it would cost to replace that crome strip. I have nightmares about those headlights ever getting cracked by a rock.I can't wait until the day when there are lots of tours in the junk yards. Probably won't happen for another 10 years though. That way if I want to experiment I won't have to spend the big $$$.

I'm suprised ford didn't paint It black from the factory for the SVT's or the sport versions.I also see on 95-97 contours the SE has a chrome strip In the bumper.I thought these are the sport versions.Chrome to me should belong on the luxury models.

In re: to above posting: ALL 95's (SE, GL, LX) had the chrome strip NO 96-97's (SE, GL, LX) had the chrome strip
Any deviation would be just that.
