Well...my son's getting his drivers license soon, and I have to take the Mystique away from the wife and give it to him, but what should I buy the wife? Explorer (XLT or Eddie Bauer, Escape (XLT Premium), or Windstar (LX or SE)? We looked at an Explorer, theyre nice, but with the 'Slade, the house, lake and all that fun stuff...we're not sure if we can afford an Eddie Bauer, and the XLT dosent have some of the stuff we want (Fog lamps, heated mirrors...), but the XLT is still nice. The Escape is nice, we can afford a fully loaded XLT with leather sunroof and so on...but we have ALOT of wind here, and we're not so sure about stability on the highway. And to the Windstar, one word: IMAGE. My wife is more of a sports sedan/SUV girl...she likes Windstars, nothing wrong with them, but she says she wants 4WD, or AWD.We can afford an LX or SE, we dont want to spend much more on just a minivan. So I need help here, should I get her a basic Explorer XLT, and live without fouglamps and heated mirrors (even though Im sure I can go to the dealer and have them installed), or get an Eddie Bauer and eat less at Outback Steakhouse? Or go with the Escape that she cant drive in wind? OR go with the Windstar and make he stay home when it snows, and give her an "Old soccer mom" image? PLEASE HELP!

Passat Wagon...

I would buy a wagon ten times over before I bought an SUV.

Drives better, more fuel efficient and best of all. If I don't buy one, there is one less on the road wink

I don't think you have to worry about the escape being blown off the road...

Why do you need to stick with Ford? There are plenty of other vehicles out there to choose from, like Redhawk said, wagons are nice these days.

Just make sure you drive to your local L/M or Ford store and say you want a new one of these (pointing to Mystique)

Oh, you don't have these anymore? Ok, tell you what. What do you have that is similar in your lineup. Four doors, european handling, and you can get loaded for the low 20s.

Nothing?

Guess you have nothing to sell me.

Thanks,

Buh Bye.

If enough people would do this, perhaps car makers would get the message that not everyone wants a tarted up truck with 4wd.

Foglamps and heated mirrors are all you're concerned about? I'm sure you can live without them ...

At any rate eating less at the Outback will also help shake a few of those pounds you've gained over the years ... go for the Eddie Bauer. Just don't complain about your wife's cooking wink

Also, like others have said, be sure to check out other manufacturers. Personally, my mom's '00 Subaru Forester has performed wonderfully, handles much better on any road - including highways - than any SUV out there, has a superb turning radius for a "small SUV", and hasn't had one major problem since we've had it (save the alarm system). AWD is more convenient than 4WD, since you don't have to manually engage/disengage it. Its headlights are bright - it looks like freaking daytime when you put on the fogs too! It also comes with heated mirrors. If you're concerned about image look to the Legacy Outback models ... or a WRX (*drool*) laugh

Just don't limit yourself to Fords, there are many other options out there ...

WAGON?! Yeah, right...my wife things those are worse than Minivans. WRX is just plain ugly. Subarus have no power (even less than the Mystique!) and I would like to get a Tahoe, or something like that, but wife dosent like those...this is HER car, and I just get what SHE wants, even if it is a F Over Rebuilt Dodge...But how much more expencive are Mountaineers? Mazda Tributes are nice too. She wants to stick to a larger family SUV or van because we take alot of vacations and stuff...and we want a vehicle that gets good MPG while still nice (The Slade is NOT good on gas), therefore the Explorer would only be a V6, no need for another V8, we tow boats and stuff with the Slade, why spend money on a V8 you dont need? So right now, she has to choose between a Pontiac Montana, Olds Silhouette, the 3 Fords, a Mountaineer, or a Tribute (women...why cant they just MAKE UP THEIR MINDS??) Good God!!! Thanks for the WELL APPRECIATED help smile

If it where me I would go with the Mazda Tribute. It's a Ford built at a Ford Factory but with a Mazda Warrenty and Mazda Service, which from my exerience is quite a bit better than Ford. Just my advice.
