Volvos have drl's and they use dual filament
globes for the park lights, in the daytime when the lights are switched off the brake light intensity filaments are lit as drl's.
When the lights are switched onn at dusk, the
normal tailight intensity filaments are used.
SAABs use this system too, at least in europe. Here in the US the park lamps high side filament is used as a cornering lamp in conjunction with the turn signals.
