Have any of you changed the part of the center consol from the Stereo to the shifter? The stock one on my SVT 98 is ugly. Is there something I can replace it with? Mondeo perhaps?

Any info appreciated.

The center console can be swapped with one from a pre 98. It requires fabrication of a simple upsidedown U bracket that gets bolted to the under side of the stereo dash piece. The center console looks much more attractive than the post 98 consoles. I've considered doing it with mine, with either a pre 98 console or perhaps one from a Cougar (should fit, right?). Only problem is they didn't make those in midnight blue, so painting would be required.

Actually I'd be happy with Black. How do you go about getting one?

95-97 offered grey, brown/tan, blue, and dark red. Sorry, no Contique black. Maybe Mondeo? The grey (I have one in my 98) is a few shades off IMO. Could be because the donor Contour did not have tint. Not noticable. The blue is not even close to the "nowadays" midnight blue. Only down side IMO is the 95-7 had more of a charcoal dash, whereas our 98+ is black. Again, hard to see the differnce, unless the tinted windows are down and roof open. Easy to swap them out, took me about an hour. Gave $20 for my console, which was from a 97 with 11K miles, so theres no wear and tear on it.

97 Console with lighted cigarette lighters, stock one in the front, added one to the back for the cell phone, kids walkman, etc.

Any pics of that bracket? I'm thinking of adding the older style to my 98. Should look better than the custom bracket I had made for my DSP...
