I'm really interested in getting a spring kit and struts for my 97 Contour LX, but I want to give my car a slammed look and am not as interested in the whole handling/performance aspect of lowering a car. So my question is does it really matter which spring brand I buy and chop ?(H&R, Eibach or Intrax).

That is the DUMBEST idea I HAVE EVER READ ON THIS FORUM!!
Why dont you take that money you are willing to spend on those springs to cut and just give it to charity! Otherwise you are just throwing money in the trash, because thats where those chopped springs will end up!
DONT DO THIS TO ANY CAR!! It is unsafe and USELESS!!

while i won't respond w/ *quite* as much passion as HWCM , i do agree that cutting springs isn't the right way to go...but it sounds like you know this, and that's your decision - and if you still want to do it go for it.

one thing, though...what about ground control coilovers? they're adjustable up to a 3" drop, iirc, and there's a group purchase going on now for (i think) 20% off. that makes them about $325 or so; see threads elsewhere on this forum and on the NECO forum for more info. don't know if price is an issue for you, but this might be a good route if you're aiming for a more significant drop than the typical eibach/h&r inch and a half or so.

I've seen a SVT that had cut intrax springs and it looked nice. You might be better off getting the GC coil over kit or Leda Coil over kit... that way you can dump it all the way to the ground and yet you can lift it up when you have to move it... my .02

Wow easy buddy, relax. If you don't like or agree with the idea, simply state it and move on or don't say anything at all. It was an idea I was thinking about, i've read about a few cars that had that done and it sounded like a cool idea. I didn't know I had to watch out about posting "dumb ideas" cause guys like you will trip out at them.

Hey Reese dont listen to these close minded people especially HWCM. I had My coils cut in half for a year and a half with no problems other than tire wear because of negative camber(I suggset BFG Euro T/A tires because they have the best treadwear and performance is decent). The ride was bouncy but not that bad. I know many people that have switched from cut stock coils to cut aftermarket springs and were very happy with the results. Although everyone on here is going to argue with it, it does help because the aftermarket spring is stiffer than stock. Put wieght in the trunk as well to help with the bouncing(such as a speaker box) if you go with an extreme drop. Don't listen to hearsay. Take the advice of someone who isn't scared to actually do it to thier car. I don't care if it voids my warranty because I dont have one. Even when I did I still didn't care. I coulnd't care less if I have to replace tires or if I have to slow down for speedbumps(a few seconds extra isn't a big deal unless your old and impatient).

Hey Leo, what spring kit did you chop and how much of a drop did you get from the stock suspension ?
I was thinking about getting a set of Intrax if not those than H&R and cutting a few coils off.

You know what? Instead of wasting your money elsewhere; why not buy the springs off my Tour? My Tour's springs have clamps on them. I'll sell them to you for $239 so I can buy some KKM EIBACH PRO-KITS lowering springs. I'd consider that's a good deal since you said you DO NOT CARE ABOUT HANDLING AND PERFORMANCE and I am NOT ALL THAT CARE ABOUT LOOK

ITS LIKE TALKING TO A WALL! USELESS!
Someone agree with the correct person here,ME!

I just read the other post to LEO,something about hydralics and the $1000 in repair cost to his tour due to his mods, and that his strut towers are cracked ETC.
NOW I KNOW who Im dealing with here,I will not reply to anymore posts on this "post",Why would you want to ruin your car like that?Dont take me wrong I love to see cars taken to the extreme, but if your going to do it,do it right the first time!It will save youy alot of time and money.
I will never agree with cutting springs,THERE ARE ABSOLUTLY NO POSITIVE BENIFITS to doing this!
Be safe get the coil overs!Your car will handel like a race car,not a truck.
Sorry if i seem a little bias but I KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT,I dont need to explain myself, just belive me.

I do. Guess I would just heat a few coils and be done with it. If you do, let me know what brand of tires you are planning on and I'll buy stock in the Co.
Lowered is OK to a point but spayfooted is tacky. My 2¢
