Being that I'm a rookie 2.5'er, I was wondering if anyone can let me know of factory air retsrictions that can be removed?

Live it, learn it, and definitely use it... Intake, exhaust, UIM, LIM, heads, valves, etc...

Check out the how-to section. There is a good write up on SVT induction if you have a regular 'tour.

The factory restrictions are the factory airbox and the in-fender silencer. I removed both items and seemed to gain some performance. The silencer was a pain a_s because it required a torx bit and had to be cut to get to the bit. Now the car produces a howling noise that is somewhat annoying and is due to the silencer removal.

It has a fender draw boot that allows for the airbox to pull in only cooler fender air vs hot underhood air though. This would actually improve performance & quell heatsoak! Yes the stock SVT airbox is restrictive. Just look at the tiny whole it's forced to suck through.

You know, DemonSVT, that's one of the things that's always had me thinking before I bought an "open element" air filter setup...
Why, if it is possible, hasn't anyone simply Dremeled open the fender hole and replace the boot with a little bit of rubber or PVC? Couldn't you also cut some venting into the factory airbox? I mean, the factory airbox isn't so much a restriction that a little modification isn't going to solve that problem... and the stock airbox will obviously act as a more effective heat shield than a 4mm thick sheet of aluminum...
.RMk..
'99 SVT, Silver Frost Open K&N w/ heat shield.
