I removed my resonator the other day and it sounds great. The initial rasp goes away within a couple minutes. The increased drone is not a problem. However, I am experiencing a subtle "raspy noise" around 3,000 rpms. I only hear the sound when I accelerate in 1st and 2nd gear. I'm wondering if this noise just comes with the territory or if it could be related to the piping,welding..etc. When I listen for it sometimes I think I'm trippin' out and it's just the sound of the engine. Does anybody know what I'm talking about or experience a simular noise? I'm assuming a high flow resonator would eliminate the noise but I'm trying to avoid spending $$ on that right now. Someone set me straight.

Mine did the same thing when I removed mine. It got better when I got a intake. There will always be rasp. Some people on the boards are putting an edlebrock hi-flow resonoator or muffler in place of the stock resonator, retaining that nice sould without the rasp. I think there like $40 or something.

It definitely comes with the territory so to speak.

I personally can not stand the buzzy, droning sound the exhaust makes without a resonator. Sounds like major ass IMO...

i removered my resinator when i fitted my SHM Headers. had next to nothing as rear mufflers, RASPY has hell...so i fitted a jetex handy 2.5".

my system is shm headers, shm y pipe, shm cat. all 2.5".straight on my cat i have the jetex handy 2.5" a short section (9") section of 2.5" pipe, a reducer to 2.25" (also FROM JETEX) that connects to the original U shaped pipe, then split into 2, 2.25" pipes to the rear mufflers.
sounds great but do still get a little rasp from headers around 5000rpm under hard driving. but overall very nice DEEP sound....

btw the secondry kick was non existent with a 2.25 pipe, but has returned with the 2.5" handy... should be usefull to BRitish users looking to quieten there mondeos.... wink
