Does cleaning the upper intake manifold require me to replace the gasket as well? or can I just re-use the old one? '00 SVT with 47k I would like to clean them tonight and I will take pictures if I can re-use the gasket.. otherwise I have to order one frown

also, how do I go about removing those two black hoses from the top of the intake maifold just behind the carb. without breaking them?

Pull the black houses out while holding down the collar with a flat screwdriver. They'll pull out a tiny bit on their own, but after that you need to hold down the collar. Also, make sure you pull straight or you'll snap one. They're brittle!

As for the gaskets, you'll likely need a new IAC and EGR gasket. The TB and UIM gaskets seem to hold up well.

Leave the one going to the brake booster and just remove it from that end instead of on the UIM. Makes it one less to do!

I have the gaskets that I bought when I did mine, only had them on for about 2k. If yours are too bad to re-use, I'll sell you mine for like $10 if you want. Ford charges about $35 for both.

Once you have the vac connections out of the intake ,remove the collar AND the 'O' ring is the brass sleeve or you will loose it and have an air leak on rebuild...just my 2 cents!!!! laugh

I just got mine UIM and LIM cleaned and I had 35,000 miles at the time. We (Stazi and I) cleaned them, scraped the gaskets and reused them because the looked still in very good condition. He used brake cleaner and Xylene. After cleaning them we started it up, and man did it hesitate and then boof, black smoke. After warming it up a little, we shut it off and he used a mister bottle and sprayed cool water in thru the TB, having to keep in reved up so not to stall with no MAF or any of that connected. After spraying the water it really smoked up and got all of that gunk out. You might as well change the spark plugs to while having the UIM off. Hope this helps.

Had the same smoke and my engine wouldn't start for awhile. Scared me that I messed something up.
But all was well... And it felt so much better. Check homepage for pics. But it wasnt long till these Damm Ford Engines went!(64,000 miles)
Anyways Ill be back on the road someday. (3.0L)

So I take it it was running when you sprayed the water in? Has anybody else done this? Because to me (Water+engin=F'ed up engin) but if its the best thing to do people let me know

You have to warm it up and it like steam cleans the inside of your UIM and LIM. The water will just evaporate, it does not stay in you system. You will feel your UIM go from warm to pretty cold then go drive. And you wouldn't beleve the amount of black smoke that pours out of you exaust.
