ok, after fitting my shm headers i felt that the car lost its scecondary kick but yes they are still working! on my way home from work on the motorway about 2 miles from my junction (pretty safe time to open her up i was following a nissan 200zx, at about 105mph,then a saw apuff of smoke come from the rear of the nissan (like a red rag to abull i relised i had a race on). obviously she yes she, had changed down and droped the pedal(and i was still catching her)at about 130mph she was either maxed or had given up, i went past. As i hit about 147mph (on a slight down hill run) the car sort of started missing and had no more pull, but i was nowhere near the red line. is this a programed mph ristricion or do you think it could be something wrong? i never noticed before because the car maxed out at 135mph before i fitted the new headers. and no it is not a svt 200bhp engine just a standard 170bhp with a few extra's.

You could have been running out of fuel. That is a very high load condition and the car may need some fuel help to keep up with your mods up top under that condition.

The very few times I've been over 120mph, I find the power to be lacking....I need a slight down grade to get more speed.....then again, we don't have many places here that you go do those speeds to begin with.

Dirty injectors or fuel filter possibly.

The Contour SVT does not have a speed limiter. Top speed is supposed to be 143 MPH as that is where it is "drag limited" or where there is no longer enough horsepower to increase speed.
The other Contours are speed limited to 118 MPH. The PCM cuts off the injectors to keep the speed at or below the limiter.
I have no idea what the limiters may be programmed to do for european use. It is possible that you hit a speed limiter, but it is also possible that you have a marginal problem (fuel or ignition) that only shows up under that kind of a load. It is also possible that you just "ran out of horsepower" to go any faster.

If I was going to give you a "dig", I would have asked you: "What are you doing driving that fast on the wrong side of the road?!"

well thanks for the input and sorry for the comment DanCanuck, but it did read a bit like that. Also i am sorry for promoting motorway racing but, every now and again you just got to give your car a good run, if not we might as well run around in 50hp motors with t rated tyres. If it is any consilation (yes i know spelling)I NEVER SPEED IN A BUILT UP AREA LIKE A HOUSING ESTATE. And if i am to be pinalised for motorway racing, you better have a word with Dave Z. Iam sure he has mentioned in a post that he has raced afew BMW's om the freeway

as stated before the SVT/ST200 do not have speed limiters- but you may have a high load lean out condition effecting the motor- it is very common for that to happen at such speads and especially if they are sustained for a while- thats is why most tuners cars cant withstand an autobahn run- they blow pistons from a high load sustained drive. most have access to a drag track and on such are VERY impressive but any HW cruising past say 100 ish MPH and they run into a whole bag o problems. (notice how Most euro companies can do such tests and not DIE!- excluding of course RENNtech- as they have a marvelous ability to whenever they are mag tested to mysteriously poop. )
