Alright so i was just looking at my intake, and from what i saw the only thing a kkm does is allow us to remove the cover ove the air filter, looking at the cover, the reason why we have to use the kkm is because the shroud clamps the filter to the maf, so what i was thinking was i would only keep the part which clamps the filter to the maf (3 in) and cut off the rest to make my own cold air, any help would be appreciated as im waiting for input to start cutting...Thanks

it has been shown that doing as you sudgested is actually better than the KKM- it flows a bit better and produces a modest at best gain over the KKM- it is refered to commonly as the poor mans KKM.
if you have the guts to do it - do it- and youll like it!

Scott...I 1st put 12 1/2" holes in the bottom of my filter housing, near the base (where you can actually see the ground thru the car). The car seemed to like that. I then installed a drop-in AFE filter, and the car realy liked that. I then cut the housing right above the clips, and honestly didn't feel a thing different. Now this was during our high 80F days and high humidity to boot...so I (gasp) duct taped the housing back together and used the fenderwall cold air intake. Now having said that...come cooler days, I'm untaping the housing. In my humble opinion, though...the exhaust is the main culprit in choking the engine. No matter how much cfm you suck in, its not getting out fast enough. I would recommend a Sho-shop Y-pipe 1st...gutted pre-cats (if you can't afford headers) then free up the cat back. Then...the intake will make a lot bigger difference. Just my $.02

yeah i definately took a electric jigsaw and cut the bottom out of my air box. i made sure to keep the points where it is supported on the wheel well. it sounds sveet as hell and is pretty quck on the throttle response. oh yeah and its free

I cut some holes in my stock airbox at the begining of the summer, and I noticed a difference right away in the pull my car had. I left in the stock filter, because I plan on getting a KKM soon. I also left the original input from the wheel-well because that seemed to be the coldest air the box was taking in. I cut one whole along the bottom, and one along the side. Sounds really good too. laugh
