August in FL, what a perfect time for this to happen lol. Anyway, recently I could hear my AC making a fairly loud clicking sound and my air was coming out warm. I checked the level of refrigerant and it was low so I bought a recharge kit and filled it to the correct level. Everything was fine after that for a few weeks. The air was coming out cold and the clicking had gone away. Well a few days ago, the clicking came back and got really loud but the air was still coming out cold. After about and 1 1/2 hour drive, the clicking sound suddenly stopped and the air was coming out hot. Forgive my ignorance but does anyone know which part this might be that needs to be replaced? Is it something I can do myself "with very limited mechanical experience"? If not, any rough idea of what I should expect to pay for the repair? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm sweating my arse off .

Sounds more like he has a leak and his refrigerant leaked out.
Connect your guage to the low side port with the engine off and cool. You should have 75-120 psi at ambient. If under 45 psi, the clutch is automatically disabled by the cycling switch.

that is possible also but I said what I did because he said it was making noise but still cold
of course check the pressure and determine if there is a leak or not

Thanks for the info. I'll check the pressure again to see if I can get the unit cycling again. I'll still have to bring it to get checked out because there most likely is a leak.

You should be able to look up an OEM at www.partsvoice.com or at www.motorcraft.com
For aftermarket, look at www.4s.com as this company supplies most of the aftermarket.
All three sites are handy to have bookmarked.
Brapple: He said the clicking stopped.. a fair sign the clutch is no longer cycling. Of course, he could just open the hood and LOOK at the clutch and SEE what it's doing.
