Is there a difference between a SVT y-pipe and a standard Duretec y-pipe? If there is, is the SVT y-pipe a simple bolt on replacement?
My 95 SE ATX is TOOOOOOO SLOW on take off and is almost uncomfortable to drive on some of the hilly highways around here due to the lack of low and midrange power. I don't pretend my Contour is a race car, it is my daily highway driver so I don't want to do thousands in mods. I'm just looking to get alittle more out of low and mid RPM range so I can set the cruise at 75 MPH without constant up and down shifting and keep a steady speed up the hills. I was told that the y-pipe is the source of the low end restiction. Thoughts anyone?

The only difference between the two is the outlet flange.

2" for standard & 2.25" for SVT

Both have the same horrible crush flange design...

Or if you know how to weld, just take it apart and optimise it.

If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

A while ago, I e-mailed Bill Jenkins at Signature L/M about the SVT and regular Duratec Y-Pipes. They are the same Part Nnumber. He stated the only difference was if you have an Auto. transmission engine. Those y- pipes have a three bolt flange, the manual trans. engines have a two bolt flange. Ed
