where can i buy a performance chip for a 98-99 contour, and how much will that run me and are the results worth it? im kinda a newbie when it comes to cars... but hey.. everyone has to start somewhere. thanks.

chips have been a hit and miss. i'd say it's the last mod to do on the car (get your intake/exhaust optimized first). custom programming is probably the way i'll go when i'm in the market for a chip

There are some chips listed in the classifieds. Also check the superchips link on the CEG links page. Either way you'll need your computer # which is supposedly behind/below the glove box.

Chip is definitely the way to go if you have the automatic.

I have read that chips are causing problems for the 2000 contour svt with the computer # XGT1, something about by passing. I have been doing a search for a complete answer but havent gotten one yet. Some any help please.

Also would it be worth getting for an svt?

I think it was worth it when I had the Diablo in my SVT. I recently had my PCM replaced due to misfiring and detonation problems (should be unrelated to the chip). Car still feels the same, but I swear I had more low end kick with the chip and no rev limiter on the SVT (now I hit the 6750 limit and hate the bounce back. I have to get the chip reburned since I have a different code PCM now.

I don't know about that but my PCM needed a jumper board put in so the chip would work (99s and 00) I just sent my PCM in to Superchips and they installed it free of charge.
