It is a proven fact that the lighter the rotating assembley the FASTER THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE . Now the LOWER THE NUMERICAL GEAR RATIO the bigger the difference it will make . Period. no questions asked. It's just physics. Dustyn is 100% correct when saying that drag racers do not like really light flywheels. Here is the reason why: Momentum. When you launch a car on a set of big slicks you need all the momentum in the world behind the motor when the clutch is released to get the car moving or you are going nowhere. On a street car where you are not going to drop the clutch at 5000rpm to launch it the light flywheel makes a big difference. Now like I said before, the lower the gear ratio numerically the bigger the difference. You are going to notice the biggest difference in 1st gear obviously, 2nd you will notice it, but not as much. 3rd, there won't be much of a difference there so I doubt you'd be able to feel it. If you dyno a car before and after in 1st through 5th gear on a dynojet it will back this up. In fact this is true for any reduction in weight in the driveline. Now the amount of weight, and the amount of leverage (I.E. Diameter of part) are very important here. 5 lbs of weight off of the flywheel are going to make a bigger difference then 5 lbs of weight off of the crank pulley, or the axle. 5 lbs off of a wheel may make just as big a difference or a bigger difference then the flywheel. It depends on where the weight comes off. It may seem that getting a big 1st gear jump in acceleration may not be worth it for the money. But in a drag race the 1st few seconds are everything. Once you get ahead in 1st and 2nd gear the other guy first has to MATCH your speed. Only then can he start to pass you. I have won and lost my fair share of races in 10 years of street racing. The holeshot is everything, unless there is a gross difference in the power level between the cars. There are down sides to driveability with to light of a flywheel to. Rought idle, difficult starts etc. But it dosent sound like this is the case with this unit. I say it was a good purchace. Hope I could help.
