Bank of America took my check without cashing it and gave me a copy of the check.

They told me the check was a fake check and pointed out things that looked OK to me. I complained and another bank employee said that she was also 100% sure that the check was fake. She said the forger even did a very poor job or forging the check. They refused to tell me if the checking account was valid because of the Patriot Privacy Act.

I got home and called Bank of America. They told me that the checking account was active. Bank of America called and told me they are now 100 percent sure that the check was a good check.

I told them it was an hour drive and I ask if they will cash the check and deposit the money in my account. I faxed them a copy of my driverâ??s license, Credit Card and a deposit slip.

All the bank had to do was do a little research to find out that the check was good, but no they wouldn't do that. I hate stupid lazy people that blame the patriot act and privacy act for everything.

I'm going to call them often until they cash the check and go to my bank and deposit the cash. If they are going to waste my time then I don't mind wasting their time.

Why didn't you just take the check to your bank in the first place?

All I can think of is "As The Furby Turns" ...

On a side note, I'm pretty certain Sovereign Bank put my e-mail address on a bunch of spam lists. I started getting tons of spam on August 15th (never had any before, now there are 13 emails from spammers since that date), the very day I received an e-mail confirming my online account. I'm pretty mad since I had a spam-free e-mail account through my school for many years and had worked hard to keep it that way; one slip-up and now my newish Gmail account (which I just recently made my primary address for personal contacts) is tainted.

My bank charges a $30 fee if a check doesn't clear. They try twice so the cost would be $60 just in bank fees if the check doesn't clear for any reason.

1) Get another bank. (Mine would charge me $7)
2) Why are you even in possession of a check that you're afraid would bounce?!?

The person that wrote the check is from Chile. I've traveled around the world in the military so the writing looked OK to me but not to Bank of America.

I was so frustrated and tired yesterday. I guess I will forgive Bank of America even though their customer service could have been better.
