I have a 98' SE 2.5L MTX and want to spray it with some Nitrous for fun. What is the most I can safely shoot in to the little Tour'?

It is bone stock outside of a K&N and SVT exhaust. I have the B&M shifter as well, but that doesn't really matter. Clutch is in great shape too.

I think the rule of thumb is your shot should equal no more than 1/2 of the power your car makes. So, 200 hp engine, 100hp shot max.

That isn't a bad rule, but it sure isn't precice or tested/proven so I want to be safe with it. I want to do as much as possible without problems, so I'm sure that there are people out there spraying their Contour's... where are they?

Yeah but can your trans handle another 100hp?

Usually the tranny explodes during launches (wheel hop), so if you're only using NO2 at WOT in second gear and beyond, your tranny should be safe. One might have to make adjustments for 1st gear. I'm no expert, though. I've just been reading up some.

Here's what I've been told;
A 65HP and below shot is safe for a good condition engine on stock internals.

I am also looking for people who have had experiance spraying the tours. I am looking more from people who have had experiance with the svt models. The car is mostly stock, exhaust/pulley. I want to run a 50 shot maybe someday I will up it to a 75 shot. I am wondering if this will put me in the mid to high 14's on raidials(drag). Any info from someone who has had experiance with this setup or something similar would be great.

Thanks
Ryan

Okay... so 65 is it? I was hoping for a bit more than that... I realize I can't do a lot, but I would assume that a correctly done 100 shot would be safe as long as you are careful. I would also assume that I need a colder plug... is this something I should do as well?

Colder plugs are needed.
At least one preferably two steps colder.
Exhaust is a must for any shot of NOS.
A cooler thermostat and some coolant additive, like Redline Water Wetter is a good idea as well.
An oil cooler is a good idea for anything over 65HP.
Stronger internals are a must for anything over 100HP.

I am by no means an expert.
Others will have more and perhaps better advice.
