i have a 98 tour svt and i did the samething and i found that there is a few companies that make a high flow resinator that will improve the souund but remain with the output of the straight pipe.

I have your answer. I don't know if you have been reading my posts, I have made some serious exhaust mods recently to my stock system.

The resonator that you removed is not a true resonator. If it were, it would be of a tubular design. It a two chamber muffler placed in the center of the exhaust system to take the raspy sound out of the exhaust note. Never remove the center muffler. Replace it with a tubular bullet style muffler or a glasspack. I replaced my "resonator" with a bullet style turbo muffler and it sounded deep. However, I went a step further on Friday and has the puny rear muffler hacked off as well and then had a pacesetter dual chrome tip with built-in resonator added on the end of the pipe. It's not too loud although it doesn't sound as deep as a V8 would. It does however sound awesome at WOT and is a little quicker now.

Griffin - you can replace your straight pipe with a glasspack muffler . It makes all the difference in the world . Mine has a nice low growl at idle & a throaty acceleration note with NO drone at cruising speed , and NO rasp whatsoever . Make sure you get a "straight-through" glasspack (i.e. - NO BAFFLES) . The one hanging under MY car is a 2.25" I.D. inlet & outlet , no offset glasspack that's about 23" long . I just measured it for another CEGer 2 days ago , that's the only reason I have the numbers right here wink . Mine is welded to the stock exhaust , but I'd imagine it could be clamped if you wanna go that route . You'll like the sound with the glasspack in there .

You are all assuming that this guy has an SVT like the rest of you. If you have a stock Tour' or Stique' and just replace the res. the system will not be very deep at all. The stock rear muffler on a standard Tour'will tame the exhaust note considerably even with a glasspack.

just a few questions about exhaust. So replacing the resonator with a glasspack is the way to go, and also replacing the y pipe , right. What would be the best glasspack to get, from which manufacturer? And is the SHO shop y-pipe better than the BAT one or are they about the same. What other things could be done to keep the deep sound and not sound ricey. Thanks..

what they will prolly do is angle the glasspack like they did mine- send me a pm if you would like some pictures e-mailed to youof my set up on a 99se. Single exhaust- glasspack in resspot, really nicetip in rear- no rear muffler. sounds nice- at least i think so- some of the folks at the national meetmay have heard my car- for the little $$i spent i loveit- going with a full pipe replacement and magnaflows when money allows- i just haven't heard anything that beats that magnaflow sound
