I do not trust any of the claims made by anyone selling car stuff"!! No offense..

I have seen no less than 3 dynos with K&N making 5 HP or more on Contours (not counting my own which also compared a MAF upgrade but did show a slight advanytake over K&N). One was a side by side comparison with monster flow, which was at one time making the big claims over K&N. It is an oiled foam style and is the ONLY filter I've seen of this type comparison dynoed.

So, K&N is proven in our cars superior to monster flow and KKM. I will need to see a side by side dyno with an amsoil, AFE or whatever filter from an INDEPENDENT party to convince me to change. anybody interested?

Well first of all they don't clean as good, they don't last as long, not as durable and as far as drying out the engine heat would dry it out.[/b]
Ummm. No it wouldn't. We're not talking about the sponge you use to wash your car.[/b]
I used to have a old camaro and it had a foam air filter and it sucked. Maybe they've gotten better since then.

I don't have any personal experience but I am pretty sure that the foam will dry out
Seems like you do have personal experience with this issue. Why didn't you say so earlier?

Well, I don't know how long ago that was, or how old your Camaro was, but I sure hope they have improved their materials, or something.

Somebody joked about lawnmowers, but I've run the same foam filter on mine for over 10 years and it's not dry or brittle, even though it sees plenty of engine heat. The foam inserts in my rear parcel shelf vents, though, are cracked and turning to dust. They get UV rays, were never "oiled" and are most likely not of the same grade of materials as a modern foam air filter, which is designed to take the abuse of living in a hot engine bay.

At least, I hope so.
wink
