But knowing them, they'll probly give you a "high performance diesel" option and toss the newest 6.6L Duramax in there... they just won't mention that it gets 13MPG.
With all the hype about gas prices and how diesels are more efficient, everyone will jump on that hi po diesel 1/2 ton... then realize they were stupid since they're getting the same mileage as a gas powered truck.

Some of these comments I see are pretty funny, but I guess what do you really expect from a predominantly Ford forum. As far as the comments about the whole truck thing goes you better look into that a little more. I think GM sells more trucks than ANYONE in the market, by a longshot.
Gas has very little to do with the sales of trucks so I don't know why people always bring that up. Just because YOU wouldn't buy a truck/SUV now cause of gas prices, that doesn't mean the next person won't...
I agree that GM needs to redo their lineup a bit, but I think their GMT900 series is a HUGE improvement and they WILL sell.

I definitely like the GMC better than the Chevy, but then again I always have. It's why I have a GMC now. That said, the GMC looks like a pretty blatant rip-off of the Ford Super Duty, with an oversized Colorado bed tacked on. Not saying I don't like the look, merely that it isn't original.
I guess I'm just a sucker for old school. I've now owned three of the 90s body style GMs (yes, it's old tech and styling, and my 2000 heavy duty is the same body style), and I still love them.

Truck sales are down hugely this year across the board, anywhere from 20 to 50% depending on the model. GM truck sales are down three-hundred thousand units over last year. So obviously "the next person" isn't buying them right now either.
Right now the best that GM can hope for with a new truck is stealing sales from Ford, Dodge, and the new Tundra, in an ever-decreasing market for trucks. Fighting for scraps basically.

The reason Ford and GM continue to sink scads of cash into trucks is because of the huge profit margin they make on each truck sale. Even with sales down, the trucks are their bread and butter. Without them, they'd go belly-up in a day.

I know, and I understand why they're doing it. But they're at the point now where that's not so much the case. Right now, between the Big Three "American" automakers, there is over 1 million units of excess truck production capacity going un-used compared to last year. No amount of margin is going to pay for that incredibly expensive unused overhead expense.

I know that sales are going down with the recent hikes in gas prices, but soon everyone will get used to the high prices and they will forget about all of this and not let gas prices choose the vehicle they buy. Plus, with DoD and technologies similar, the gas mileage is nowhere near as bad as it could be. I know for myself, I will not let gas prices affect what I buy within reason. Obviously I am not going to go out and buy something with a combined mileage of barely double digits, but I am not going to force myself to buy something with 30+ mpg. In fact, once GM announces the production of the new Camaro (which is supposed to be THIS Thursday), I will begin putting money aside for one regardless of the advertised gas mileage.

I hope everyone is ready for gas prices to rise again. Alaska

Let's hope GM does better with the Camaro than they did with the GTO concept.
