"My coolant has been leaking in my 2.5 manual transmission 99 contour. I bought a product by the name of "bars leaks" and poured it into my coolant. Started my car, and it ran for about 30 seconds and then killed. I dont know what happened, but it just killed and wouldnt start again. I then proceeded to add more coolant to try to dilute the product some."
I doubt the "bars leaks" killed the engine. You probably have a blown headgasket.
I did accidentally overfill with the coolant, but that was after the fact that my car died and would not restart. I have no idea what to do with this, and I can't even tow it to a shop the way because it wont start.
"Does anybody have any advice as to what i should do, and whether or not I can even fix this myself?"
1) I suggest you get a hold of a code scanner/reader and scan for codes and post.
2) Then, change the engine oil and change the filter (check the consistency of the oil).
3) Reset the PCM (Pull Fuses 4 and 11 in Power Distribution Box next to battery for a few minutes). Then try starting it.
4) Then do the el cheapo headgasket test.
Fill coolant to the brim on recovery tank (leave cap off). Remove all spark plug wires. Remove all but one spark plug and have someone crank the engine. If the coolant bubbles over, there is leak from that portion of the engine (or cylinder). If not, go to the next cylinder, and then the next.... Note, it could be more than one area or more than one cylinder.
Oh, and welcome back
