As most of you don't know I'm a train enthusiast, and I have been since I was a kid, I only have one train thing it's a plastic model of a Southern Pacific locomotive, my dad's aunt gave me years ago. I found this cool pocket knife on ebay and just had to have it. I can't wait til it comes.

Foamer! Haha.
I'm a railfan myself (Shhh) and have more than a few thousand in models stuck in a room that I continually add to but do absolutely nothing at all with. But then I get to work on the 1:1 scale thing on a daily basis since I work for the BNSF. We all make fun of the foamers, but deep down inside you don't do the work we do if you're not one yourself to some degree.

Don't know why but I love trains and so does my dad. I'm a car fanatic, trains, nascar, coca-cola, and clocks.
I have nearly 10 clocks in my room including computer vcr and radios.
Maybe a dumb question but what is a foamer?

You're a foamer. It's what railroaders call people that like trains.

I got some big model trains that were my dads (so 50ish years old) that are heavy as balls and made of metal. Im not sure if they work or not, but are they worth anything? They rode on track that was 3 rails, maybe 1.5ish inches wide.

I seen trains like that at a flea market once the guy wanted A LOT for them, so I'm guessing yeah they should be worth something.
My dad has a old steam engine one wind up with the coal car it has the same track your describing, still has the key to wind it up too, it was too his dad's.

I'm not a railfan but I'm looking into working for the railroad (csx), probably next year. Hopefully I won't turn into one. I'm tired of working on cars all day, because it makes me not want to work on my own car. I guess sorta bad for me to mix a hobby and a job. .... I want to work for the railroad because my grandpa did, and it looks to be a good job, doing something a bit different. Hoping to become a 'conductor' and probably end up moving up to engineer later on down the road. Of course this is assuming I even get hired.

Well, I've gotta tell ya, knowing your habits, if you can't pass a piss/hair test, you don't stand a chance in hell. Other than that, it's hard not to get hired. All railroads are incredibly short-handed right now.
The pay is great, superb even for a non-college-grad, but the hours will suck and frankly the job of a conductor is boring as hell. Your only real purpose is to do something if the engineer falls over dead and/or walk the entire train (well over a mile long) whenever a problem occurs. As a new guy you'll be on what is called the 'extra board', whatever extra trains are added to the schedule or whenever a crew doesn't show up you'll be called any time of the day or night with very little notice. The concept of shift work will probably be a foreign concept for at least a couple years. You're well-rewarded for work that is long and pretty boring rather than hard.
