Well my amp blew yesterday. I usually keep my seat folded down to get some air to the amp, but I didn't yesterday when I left work. Worked perfectly until about 15 mins after driving then bass got very weak, and barely hitting. When I got home, I folded the seat down to let the A/C help cool it. The amp was burning hot. I went to the bank, and checked the amp before I went inside, and the power light went out between leaving my house and the drive to the bank. Fuse on the battery wire was blown. I replaced the fuse, amp cooled down, but it's still hitting the same way. I check all my wires and everything was good. I'm very anal when it comes to wires. Nothing gets half-assed in my car. I tested my wiring by installing my friends amp and subs in my car and they worked perfectly. No problems at all.
So anyways, time for a new amp. The amp I was using was a Alpine V12 MRV-F357. The sub I have is a Kenwood KFC-W3002 12". Both are old, from about 1999-2000. They came free with the 2000 SVT I bought. My car didn't have a system, so I swapped it over to my 98. I already had a good HU and aftermarket speakers.
Here is the specs on the sub:
Quote:
KFC-W3002 300 mm Component Subwoofer
500W peak power
300mm Pearl-Mica cone diaphragm with urethane surround
Aquamarine colored cone surface
1,200 g magnet
Impedance 4Q
Diameter 306mm
Mounting depth 135mm
Sensitivity 93 dB/W/m
Frequency response 18Hz - 4kHz
The sub will be replaced in the near future with something new and much better brand. But in the meantime, it's staying.
I need recommendations on a good amp that will power up this sub, but also give me extra power for the future when I get a stronger sub. I don't know anything really about good amp brands.
My whole setup currently is:
Alpine CDA-9807 Head Unit
Infinity Kappa 682.7cf 6x8 Speakers (Front)
Pioneer TS-A6870R 6x8 Speakers (Rear)
Kenwood KFC-W3002 12" Subwoofer
Alpine V12 MRV-F357 Amplifier
Quite the mix of brands.
