I have a '96 with the 2.5L and Auto. Under hard acceleration, the batter light comes on...let off the accelerator, and the light goes off. It only does it under hard acceleration. Could it be the belt slipping?

Could be. Could also be the belt tensioner or just the alternator brushes floating (alternator about to go).
If you haven't changed any of this in the 136k miles then maybe all three needs to be changed. When changing the alternator, you may want to consider the wiring mod if it has not been done. Also make sure the additional fender shields are in place.
Alternator test.
Engine running, voltage across battery terminals should be 14 to 14.5.
