Is there a general consensus on this y-pipe? From what I've researched, it only works well in conjunction with a chip.

A definite good Buy... i dont think you need a Chip but of course everything is a plus.

Something to think about is your stock Y-pipe is big to keep all that heat in. This pipe wraps right around your oil pan, which will increase heat. Some people are just finding this out, and some have taken care of this problem like I have.
I had Jet Hot Ceramic Coat the pipe to insulate any excessive heat (decreased by 25-30%). I think others have either custom made a heat shield or wrapped it with Thermo-Tec.

Check my Mod section of my homepage.. this will show you one altenative. Also get someone to weld it in, the U-clamps dont work well.
Something to think about.

I have this same y-pipe with no cat and I love it. Goes great with an exaust too, but Ive heard one on a stock svt exaust with no resonator and it sounded great to. The only thing is I think I lost some torque down low. And no you don't need to have a chip for it. A chip controls Ignition timeing, spark curves and shift point, not air/fuel ratios.

1. Major drone and some rasp. Nearing honda levels, but a little deeper...

2. The Y-pipe perks up bottom end & midrange torque. That is it's biggest strength.

3. True, however this design Y-pipe was made to be used with a chip! So a lot of it's gains rely on you using a chip too...

4. A chip does control fuel enrichment along with numerous other things. (BTW - ignition timing & spark curves are the same thing)

Thanks! I appreciate your experience and replies. Its time for a new exhaust, and I want something that'l provide results. I'll probably go that y-pipe...2 1/2' back around the gas tank (no res) then a 10416 magnaflow...quick 90 turn...into a real Y split (not T or U-shaped Y)...then into 2 10416 magnaflows out the back. Any comments? Where (except for the local Lentz) can I get these magnaflows...prices, anybody?
