I'm working on an EMachine (T2482) that had no POST beep or video and so far have replaced the motherboard (Biostar M7VIG400), fried it only seconds after powering up. Replaced the power supply and the RMAâ??d motherboard, refurbished I think this time. Now when I power it up at the POST screen I get:

â??CMOS Checksum Error Defaults Loaded
!Warning System had reset due to over-clock setting. Please re-enter CPU settings in CMOS setup and remember to save before quitting.

Only problem is I canâ??t get into the CMOS setup. F1, F8, F9, and DEL keys donâ??t seem to work. Iâ??ve tried to clear the CMOS settings by the jumper pins or by holding the Insert key while powering up. Replaced the MB battery. Nothing seems to work. My guess is the BIOS might be corrupt. Current BIOS version is VIG 1224 BS 400, which looks to be the latest offered. Any ideas are welcomed at this point.

Maybe it's a bad board... I had it happen to a guy's HP I was working on. Board fried somehow, so I bought a similar board off some random company.

Got it and one of the IDE channels was dead. Had to RMA it, which took forever (like a month) to get a new unit.

Dude was pretty pissed at me, thought I had broken it.

Sounds like a bad MOBO issue to me as well. Going through that same thing with my daughters e-machine this week. I'll be dropping the drive into a very nice custom case with an Asus Mobo & all new internals.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Is it a PS/2 or USB keyboard? Any lights lit up on the keyboard when you try to boot? On older boards if the USB option is not enabled in the BIOS it won't recognize a USB keyboard till you get to the OS.

I'm going to point out some obvious problems I've seen when people do board swaps and run into trouble.

1. No stand offs under board.
2. Stand offs where there is no holes on the board.
3. Mis-aligned board causing a bend in board.

Keyboard and mouse not working: Since it's PS/2, make sure you didn't plug into the wrong ports. It will fit in either one obviously, but will not respond if backwards. Check the pins on the plugs to make sure you didn't mash any of them up and they are just bent over to the side in the plug.

No other combinations of F keys or Ctrl+F works to get into setup. I double check to make sure mouse and keyboard were correctly plugged in, yes they were. No PS/2 pins bent. Switched them just to try it, nothing. New board is smaller so unused standoffs are not a problem. All other standoffs match old board. Fit of new board seemed good.

I'm guessing I'll be RMA'ing another board to Newegg.
