well I need to dig into the car more but I think that my alternator is starting to go ... it was already one I got from a junk yard.

anyway my volt gage hasn't read 14.7 in some time. a few time now the volatage drops to near 12.2 volts, that is with the radio on, the AC and fan on high. the voltage will sometime change with rpm but not much, and at idle the voltage will sometimes drop when I turn the AC and fan on to high ... i confirmed the volt gage with a battery/alternator tester, battery is good, alternator read low, about 13.5 volts

No battery light at this time, plan to go over the grounds this weekend.

Also I think that my oil leak is dripping onto the alternator, could this be the issue? I believe it is from the rear valve cover and I have new gaskets to install, just need to install them.

The other thing that I have noticed recently is in the cooler weather the volts are closer to where it should be but in the heat of the day they tend to get low ...

Heat increases resistance, thus lowering voltage output. Accurate observation.

Oil and water on the alternator can also cause it to go out, yes.

I'm glad you already HAVE another alternator, instead of it going out completely and then ahving to try to get one.

I don't have a replacement yet. the original had the case crack so I already replaced it once with one I got from a junk yard, I need to get another now ...

I do have the one kicking around from my mothers car but that one was failing also as we where getting a flickering battery light at higher rpms

Oops, I misread your post, and thought it said "I already got one from a junk yard"
