For those having the common problem with an inoperative or stuck sun roof, I found a company that sells just the gear that goes bad. It is claimed to be unbreakable and has a lifetime warranty. I just got mine, installed it and it seems to work fine. The gear is $61.00 incl. shipping and is easy to install. The website is www.sunroofgears.com. JPick

Doug, did you send the gear back under the warranty?
If so, how was the company to deal with?

Nope,
both gears (from sunroofgears.com / hamandbagol) or whoever that was... i've tried both companies that make aftermarket gears and both of them failed in less then a week or normal (read: very cautious) use. I've even taken out my whole sunroof assembly and junk to clean it out and make sure that it wasn't binding up and putting added stress on the motor...

But no, I haven't sent either of them back mainly because this was earlier this year and I never got around to it and I don't think they'd warrenty them now. But I got about 130$ of plastic junk sitting in my 'contour parts' box.
