Easiest and quickest fix would be to do a straight 3.0 swap. For this you need a sable/ tuarus intake/TB set up. The escape UIM does not fit in the engine bay. Other things you need to do to both engines is cut flex plate bearing, cut 2 block ears for alternator bracket, use modified EGR tube, swap timing cover (possible not escape), and make fuel rail for your return fuel. Other than that it is a near drop in engine.
The escape engine comes with a updated oil pan and pick up tube. The taurus/ sable engine must use your older style 2.5 oil pan or buy the new style oil pan (about $200).
If you buy a sable/ tuarus engine you should be able to get the swap done for about 600 if you use all your original parts and do a straight swap.
If you use an escape block you will have to buy a sable / taurus UIM / LIM / TB to put on the escape block. Don't pay more than 75-100 for these parts. A lot of people did these swaps and have the parts left over. Just ask around, somone don't need them.
Look at the stickies in this forum, there is plenty of info there.
Check Car part. Talk em down on the price and dont pay more than 500 for an engine with less than 50k. I paid 200 for a sable engine with around 47k.
