Discuss ... any Bostoners affected by the traffic? Some of my coworkers were 1.5 hours late to the office. I'm chilling in Somerville with my friends for now before heading back to Millbury. Thankfully I left early enough (and get off at 128 north) so I wasn't affected much.

This shouldn't have happened at all. Nobody expects a 40 foot square piece of concrete to fall while they're in a tunnel, especially not for a project that cost billions of dollars. I'm glad the man survived, but it'll be horrible when he finds out his friend/spouse was killed by this. Now we're hearing that this tunnel was the cause for concern by previous inspector generals too.

alot of people are going to lose their jobs and the state is going to get sued like crazy.

never should have happened.

look at the callahan (i think thats the one) how long has that been around, how much did it cost, and how many times has it fallen apart?

Now the main article mentions their names - they were married.

yeah that's really tragic. I can't imagine how horrible it would feel to live through an accident like that and have to find out others died.

1. Where in Somerville did you hang out?! That's my old haunt!

2. I'm not afraid of driving through the tunnel, and it's not like I travel that way often.

It's a damn tragedy that this happened. The poor family.

Davis Square .. near the little playground. I have some friends on Simpson Ave and am looking for a place nearby (or at least in town). It takes me a good 1/2 hour just to get out of Alewife station now (idiotic intersection design at Rt 2 / 2a - one two-lane road and the Alewife exit ramp get the same green light and merge into two lanes in the middle of the intersection, causing massive backups) so I decided I want to be within walking distance of the Red Line - but apparently this is "THE line to be on" so apartments are more expensive than they should be.

Yeah, the Callahan goes from Boston to the Airport and the Sumner goes in the opposite direction. I remember I was stuck in the Sumner once in the limo and the fumes from all the cars running in there was bad. I couldn't imagine doing that everyday, but I never once thought the ceiling would fall! They don't make em like they used to I guess.

i was caught in it yesterday. doubled the commute. today wasn't bad at all; took maybe 5 mins more. there was an accident at the entrance to the O'Neil tunnel that was holding up traffic on the Z-bridge, but under the city was a breeze.

Actually... Somerville's rent has little to do with the Red Line.

Somerville property values SKYROCKETED a few years back. My in-laws bought their home in the late 70's for $23k, and now it's likely worth $800,000. And that translates to people realizing they can charge a ton for rent and get away with it. It's also near Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Lesley. And it will be even worse when the Green Line extends out to it over the next decade.

I actually used to live just around the corner from where you hang out. If you were to go up Summer Street (to the left of Domino's), there's a set of lights at Willow. I was on the next street heading towards Union Square, 4 houses down.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for any rental properties going up. There's a place in Union Square next to my in-laws that doesn't have the best parking, but it's on the 85 and CT2 bus lines to Kendall Square.
