Well the car is acting up again. It is a 1999 Mercury Mystique V6. The car just stalls for no apparent reason. Sometimes it will restart without no hesitation and other times it will not. I have replaced the egr valve, fuel pump, air filter, plugs, DFPE, fuel filter. What can it be? IAC bad? What happens when this is bad? Thanks!

What tranny? How many miles on the car? Turning left or right? Any CEL codes? Scan it at Autozone or Advance (even if the light is not on).

Suspect IAC valve, or massive vacuum leak (hissing sound, ticking). Stalls with foot off the accelerator.

For vacuum leak, use carb clean and spray near gaskets or connections. If the idle changes, you found the leak.

also if it only stalls while turning it could be the power steering pressure switch which is supposed to tell the pcm when your turning so it can bump up the idle. if thats bad the pcm will not bump the idle and the pump could put too much load on the engine and cause it to stall. but like Tony said get it scanned first.

Hey guys it is a automatic with 108k miles. I believe it does stall while not pressing on the gas. To be honest the first time it stalled, I didn't even realize it until having difficulty turning the steering wheel.

The quiet shut off is "normal" for this situation. If you find a cracked or split hose, come back here with pictures before you get raped at the local dealerships. I've had two hoses blow out on me and one that was cut, replaced them all with unconventional solutions that saved money. Just a heads up
