A Local shop told me my '95 Contour neds a new Accumulator/Drier to replace my leaking unit.

I have the part (about $44 at NAPA) and o-rings.

Does anyone near Easton have a vacuum pump I could borrow, or come over to use?

I jsut looked into this. You can get a venture style pump for $50 from The Eastwood Company that is designed for this purpose and has fittings for R12 and R-134A. You can check Ebay for better deals on them. It works by using 90 Psi shop air. Also you need a gage set to properly do this. I got the cheap set from Autozone, now wish I got the $80 "profesional" set instead but the ones I have work.

I have a gauge set and shop air. I just didn't think these devices were worth the effort.

You have good results with one?

haven't tried yet, waiting on my dryer so that I can install it and try

although, I did try it alittle last weekend. my gages don't show vacuum but after putting it on the sytem and adding some R-134A the low side pressure did jump up rather quickly to about 30 psi and the high side finally went to 50 psi, so I think that it will work fine. The instructions say that you should vacuum the system for about ten minutes, wait 5 and check to see that it held vacuum.

What I can do this weekend is vacuum the sytem and then open the valve and see if the system take in air, thus proving that it had a vacuum on it.

I just asked Brian and said he doesn't. I'll check with Jason and see if he has one.

Thanks. I'd be doing this job early next week, as college kid is taking the car for the weekend.

Yesterday I tried adding a $15 can of 134a with stop leak, oil and some other stuff in combinations with the 110z of gas. My cheapie dispense hose and gauge leaked it all over me, the car and floor instead of into the system.

So much for doing the "quick and dirty" remedy insstead of replacing the acc/drier and using real gauges, like I will when I have the time.

Appears the "quick and dirty" method was just that.

I haven't heard back from Jason yet but as soon as I do I will let you know.

LMAO!
I wonder how that happened? I changed what I was writing but never clicked the continue button to submit it. Weird.
