Is the 0340 a performance killer, or is it rather run rough vs smooth condition? Does it cause the PCM to go into LIMP mode?

TIA

This is one of the codes for the Cam Position Sensor. Yes this will cause the car to go into LIMP mode. If you go to the prior page, under "troubleshooting", you can search at the bottom of the page. Type in P0340 and a range of threads will come up allowing you to read about fixes till you're blue in the face...

Finally, an easy repair. Just replaced it and it took all of 5 minutes.

Now if everything else could be this easy!
