Hey everyone first off just wanted to say hello and all that good stuff. I used to be a member over at NECO, but I sold my cougar and now have a black 2000 SVT. I am wanting to replace the stock guage cluster and have a couple questions.
1. Can I order the overlay from speedhut.com just use the cougar overlay....everything looks the same??
2. How do I recalibrate my needles after the install??
thanks Will

Welcome! Here's the most accurate way to calibrate:
obtain an OBDII diagnostic tool that will supply you with current running stats, e.g. revs, speed, etc.
You'll need to put the front end on stands, and chock the rear wheels. A lift would be ideal, and MUCH safer to boot.
With the OBD tool connected and on, put the car in gear and accelerate to some pre-determined speed you've picked. I personally would choose something near highway cruising speed for better accuracy.
When you've reached the speed you've picked, say 60, then attach the needle so it's pointing at 60. Do the same for your tach.
As far as your temp and gas needles, if you change those that is, you should just be able to mark the spot they're pointing at when the car is off, and replace them in that same position.
If you don't have an OBD tool, you might be able to have a shop put it on the lift and use their tool. Shop up the street from me said they'd do it for $40. Seems a bit steep, but it's cheaper than $150 or so for a good diagnostic tool.
I want to reiterate, MAKE SURE YOUR CAR IS SECURE ON STANDS OR A LIFT WHEN YOU DO THIS!!!! The last thing you want is it falling off the stands and shooting through your front wall at 60 or 70 mph!!
As far as the Cougar faces working, I have no idea on that!

cougar faces will not work. as for Guages, you are going to have to get SVT ones, because the SVT cluster has a speedo that goes up to 160 as opposed to 130. If you get the overlays that go to 160, you wont need to recalibrate anything, you can simply slide them over the needles once you get the cluster apart, its pretty easy. Double sided tape them down as well, so they dont lift and make your needles stick, I had that problem with my gas gauge... Although it was nice to think I had gone 200 miles and still have almost a full tank, it definately wasnt a reality...

You can get indiglows from here. I have these in my car. Or you can get more of a standard overlay from here. But make sure you check the GB thread on how people felt about these. You will not need to remove your needles, so do not worry about calibration or any of that stuff. The gauges will slide over the needles but its a bit of a PITA.

You WILL need to be careful sliding overlays over the needles, as you CAN knock your speedo out of calibration. It happened to me.

Double sided tape wasn't strong enough to hold my gauge faces down. I ended up using 3M spray adhesive that I found at Michael's, an arts and crafts store. I heard about it from hetfeild, I think. It's still working fine.

You can buy 3M spray adhesive at Wally World too.
