i just put a new alternator on the car 2 days ago and now advance auto is telling me i have a bad diode in the new alternator . so now they tell me i need to bring the alternator in to be tested to see if we need to order a new one. sure no problem i will just spend another 3-4 hours to take it off and put the old one back on (so my lights will flicker again). i also have to replace my power steering pump as well! i can't wait to do all of this tomorrow on my day off. so has anyone run into a bad diode after a 2 day old alternator? btw other than the power steering pump whining the car seems to be running fine. advance even said that the battery was fine and that it was charging .

Next time test the alternator BEFORE you leave the store.
Many of the auto parts stores use rebuilts that have simply been "repaired" then made to look pretty.
As for the whining PS pump, I hope you tried a vaccum purge first...Air in the system can make the pump sound like it is bad.
