So yesterday a friend asked me to get on IM so we talk. Well, while she was off cleaning house I got bored quickly and went off into the chat rooms. Now I haven't been in an IM or chat room in about 7 years so I was quite shocked to see all the bots everywhere. It's like an uncontrolled infestation and I haven't seen yet one live person.

And not too mention all the godforsaken pop-ups by bots with preprogrammed messages.

What an annoying piece of siht that thing is. Anyone else feel that way?

Those bots have actually been programmed extremely well. Out of nowhere, for no reason, one sent me a message. I started talking to it because it said it was a Jenny I once knnew from high school. I was like wtf I havent talked to any of them in years- and then when it started laughing out loud at "who are you?" I knew.

It said after it revealed itself that everything I said was emailed to the person who sent me the joke in the first place. Never found out who it was.

One of my friends made an AIM bot designed to provide you information of the winter parking ban details of each street in Worcester (pulls from the Worcester website) or to notify you via e-mail, AIM, or txt whenever a winter parking ban takes effect. It can parse words for rudimentary conversation as well. Appropriately enough, the screen name is "ParkingBan". He had had plans to make it nationwide for major cities in the far future, though that requires significant effort of course. He lives in California now so I think the bot project might be abandoned since they don't often have variable parking bans (though it remains online for us Worcesterites). More info

They can be put to extremely good use when programmed properly. Another friend is working on a bot to control his G5 remotely from anybody's computer.

I used to have a conversation bot on my computer called FeBOT. This was long before the days of consumer high-speed internet. It was a program you installed on your computer and .. just .. conversed with it ... was fun for the easily amused.

I used to IM AustinPowers when they were promoting GoldMember.
It was funny for like 5 minutes, but you can only swear at him for so long before it stops being funny.

it's scary some times the bots start talking to one another aswell.
