i dont have a lot of money, but i want to upgrade my exhaust system. what has the best bang for the buck? i was thinking about getting a SHO-Shop Y-pipe since it's not too expensive. Anybody know how they perform/sound? How much are the Brullen exhausts, and what is their website?

i want a nice deep sound with decent hp gains, but not for an arm and a leg. input is appreciated.

sho-shop y-pipe w/CAT ~$250
replace the resonator with a high-flow muffler (Edelbrock 5503) ~$90

chop the rear mufflers and put on some aftermarket tips smile

at least that's my plan... already have the y-pipe - sounds great, more ooomph!

Sho Shop Y with cat and remove the resonator completely. Raspy but effective.

My advice would be... replace the resonator with a 5x8x18 Magnaflow (hint: part number 12255) and chop the rear mufflers off. The muffler should be under $100 shipped, and the labor should be minimal.

SHO Y, peice of CRAP!!!

I got mine and guess what instead of gaining I loss a tenth in the 1/4 and about 1mph. Worse part, I bought the Stainless Steel Y, and those *******s have the nerve to weld in a piece of regular steel piping on the Flex Pipe, DAMN thing is rusted big time and it's only been on there for about 3months. There Y design is High School developement at best, in fact with all that flashing in the pipes from welding (hopefully you have a Dremel) you're lucky if you even get anything from there system. A few may have been lucky with the Y's, but I'll tell you my thoughts, from what I've been recently sudying, there Y is very poorly designed and put together and those factors alone should help keep you away from purchasing 1. My suggestion, Optimize your stock Y, swap out for a higher flowing CAT and install a good catback system Bassani or something if you're looking for a Cheap route. wink

Personally, I have extreme plans on the exhaust side. My exhaust system will be computer developed to perform optimally for my motor, dimensions, length and so forth. If you seen the Y I'll be putting on my car, 'You'd probably end up Vommiting,' all over SHO's Y that is. laugh Sorry but I can't explain the details of the exhaust, as I'm working on possibly providing this to the Contour Public and so details are confidential at the moment, Plus I'd like to be the 1st to have it if you know what I mean!!! wink

This modified Y-pipe was about 70 for the cat and about $75 for the parts and welding. If the work is done carefully, you can retain the bracket for hanging the y pipe.
