Well, ive decided to start shopping for a laptop... But im a little stuck... Im probably going to take my desktop to school with me, but I want a laptop for on the go kind of stuff and note taking. So thats my problem, I want something thats inexpensive, performs decently, and gets good battery life... Like 2.5-3 hours ish.. Then I found this...

Newegg

I read about it and it gets friggan 4 hours of battery life... But the sacrifice is a 1ghz Celeron, thats just slow. If that were a Pentium m then I would be more interested... but thats where Im kind of reluctant to go in that direction... Anybody have any suggestions? Ive built computers since I was 14 years old.. But I cant for the life of me shop for laptops and get a good deal...

if your gonna be on the go look for centrino that would give you the best battery life asfar as the link you can find better for cheaper by todays standards 4hrs is middle of the range

don't skimp on laptops thats my advice

how much are ibm thinkpads going for theese days
if you get it though best buy get they extended 3yr warrenty program basicly after 3 months thell give you a new battery
they havent asked me for the old battery so now i have 3 battery's total and the warrenty paid for its self already
i can get a little over 7 hours using all the batteries

its nice

I think you have to set up a firmer set of paramaters, you have an idea of what you are looking for in battery life, but what about weight? Cost? You also mentioned performance, but if this is just going to be internet and typing notes a Celeron will work just fine and save the expense (and some juice) over a more expensive processor.

Give the Thinkpad X60 a serious look, with the 8 cell battery it should give you the life you are looking for and seems to fit the bill in other areas.

I would be careful going with cheap laptop brands. I have seen very little reviews (reviews that are competent) about them. A laptop is a big investment wheather you go cheap or expensive. My advice is shell out or save up more cash and get a solid brand and model with good reviews. It will be worth it in the end. Plus the upgraded warrenty is a must. Stuff happens, upgraded warrenty = good! parts for these are expensive. I would reccomend going to hp or dell websites and building a custom one. You dont have to buy it, just build it online and get a good taste of what you really want/need/can afford.

Sony = paying more for the "sony" on the front
Dell = Average and popular

My brother has an Averatech. He paid $500 for it 4 years ago with not much lower specs. It's been great for him as a DVD play for his kids on trips. I like its size/weight, but for $800 you can do better.

State your requirements in terms of size, weights, budget, and uses.

How big are you looking for?

You can get some ULV (ultra low voltage) Pentium M and Core Duo <12" laptops that get close to 7 hours on the battery...

Sony TX Series

Fujitsu Siemens LIFEBOOK P Series

Toshiba Portege R200-S2031
