Lately, since the summer heat is here my coolant has been boiling over into the expansion tank and out onto the ground.I have searched and have found some help but not specific to my problem.I'm thinking it is my t-statbut not sure?it seems like every day or two I have to put in more coolant because it keeps spilling out of the expansion tank. What could the problem be? I plan on doing a radiator flush soon and was thinking about changing the t-stat.Could this be the problem? any help is appreciated! thanxs

Yes, the thermostat is a suspect, and the waterpump. Is the engine overheating? Check the 2 cooling fans are running nice and strongly (watch out for your fingers). They should run with the a/c on or the engine temp at M on normal scale.

Test coolant strength. $5 tester from Autozone or Advance.

Recovery tank cap might not be holding pressure.

Radiator flush might help (unless the radiator is plugged).

What is the temperature reading on the gauge when you are driving (idling)?

I suspect the water pump. The test is to see if the heater produces hot air. If it is ambient temperature, not heated, it is the waterpump.

If it isn't the water pump, add a coolant cap that doesn't hold pressure to your list of suspect parts.

The engine isn't overheating to the point of me stopping on the side of the road. When the needle starts to lean to the hot side I hear the fans kick on and it begins to cool down. The only time it boils over is when i have been driving for a good bit,go to shut off my car and bam the next thing I know coolant is everywhere on the ground.

**I check the Heater and the fans all seems to be working well right now.So would it be the t-stat staying close and shooting all the hot (boiling) coolant into my reseviour?
