You generally only have 1 or 2 options in the area that you live in (1 probably being more common than 2), and that area can be as small as a single neighborhood. So even the house across the street might have different options than you do. That makes getting suggestions on who would be the best to go with difficult, since no one even knows what companies you do have to choose from. And prices vary widely as well. What I might get for $50 you might get for $100 using the exact same company.
Best bet is to find out what providers are in your area and then see what people think about those particular companies as far as service. As far as prices go, your best bet will just be calling them up and talking to them. You can haggle out rates like you can buying a car.
This is a good site for figuring out who exactly provides service at your address and what services they provide: http://cpss.go2broadband.com/?id=107900

Holy crap, I'm agreeing with Todras on something! Seriously, ditch the cable. Over-priced, lousy service (Comcast here).

I have had dish for like 3 years now and no regrets, I love my DVR. Only problem I have isn't with Dish Network though; my dog keeps eating my damn sat feed wires.

Meh...my parents have Dish, I really don't care for it too much. It's def. better than cable, but I get more (and better) channels for my money with DirecTV, and the channels are arranged in a more logical manner.
