Here is the link gentlemen http://dynoperformance.com/article_details.php?article_id=1

it gives dyno plots and all, it is also short, sweet, and to the point.

*this article doesn't compare sound
-as far as sound goes, borla gives a deep, thrusty and smooth sound. It is reletively quiet. You can tell that it is a good bit louder than stock at low rpm levels, but not at high(7000) rpm levels. Borla doesn't have any rasp or cabin noise.
-bassani sounds very comparable to a mustang in sound. It is quite loud, and very throaty. It also has some cabin noise. I personally love the sound of the bassani, but I went with the borla because I make fun of people who drive around with really loud "slow" cars. The bassani really tempted me...because it would be cool to have a 2.5 sounding like a v-8, but I just don't think it is right having a 4 door sedan be that loud. Also, I didn't want any cabin drone, and wanted to be able to hear my stereo. After reading the above article, borla became my choice due to the low rpm gains. The svt suffers in low end torque, and that is where we need it most

Thanks for posting that dyno info, I was hoping that someone would post that info.

I had the South County exhaust system which was suppose to be so hot, it's performance was very good, but it rusted out in less than 1 year, and it was loud enough to wish I had another 1200watt amp in my car. I put the Borla on, noticed no drop in pucker power(butt dyno), can now hear music again, like it alot!

IMHO, Borla is the best sounding exhaust b/c of there not being a raspy tone. I did notice a decent difference in low end, but when I bought the exhaust I was told that you won't notice a big increase until you change the exhaust in front of the cat(headers or y-pipe or both). Have heard the other exhaust (bassani and brullen) and just have to say I love the Borla. Tips are as stated 3.5" and pipe diameter for exhaust is 2.25" non resonated mufflers w/ straight through design

The tips go from 2" ID to 3" OD, to answer the original question. The pipes after the
rear split go down to 2" each.
OD of the tips is somewhat irrelevant, 3" or 3.5" who cares, except in the context of how it all looks? ID is still 2" as measured off of my own system. Pipe ahead of the rear split, I could have sworn it was 2.5"? Stock SVT is 2.25" so what gives?

And I have to agree, everyone uses the low end quite a bit. I can see winding it up for "best launch" in a drag race, but who wants to do that at every stop light, just to stay ahead of that Tercel in the next lane? Day-to-day, low-end means "driveability."

Count me in the driving under 3k crowd wink In town I typically shift at ~3k

IIRC, according to the Gtech Borla gained me ~.2 in the quarter and about that 0-60. Interpret that as you choose...

I haven't done my exhaust yet but have a guy I have been talking to about it. I have quoted him before and will again her "I make more $$ taking Borla off of vehicles. Customers did not like the sound at all, like a potatoe was stuck in the pipes somehwere"

I would have to disagree w/ the potato sound, but that is just an opinion.

As far as the diam. it is 2.25 and yes the stock pipe is 2.25. I was very upset when I received my exhaust and saw that it was the same size after seeing the 2.5 stated on spmotorsports. I called Borla and they said that ALL of there systems regardless of car are the stock diam. It is the mandrel bends and the straight through design that they get there gains(little or big) from. (Just a quote from the tech on the phone) Like I said b4 I have had mine for over 2yrs and would never take it off, and if I bought another contique (svt or not) I would buy it again, unless I was going forced induction. smile

Just FYI on that article.. the Bassani was tested with resonator tips IN (pretty sure). GreenSVT (?) showed a few years ago that the Bassini gained about 60% more power with tips OUT (average power 4-7K RPM increased from 3 to about 7 FWHP). Really flow well at high RPM. Borla was slightly better at low end tourque in previous dynos but down about 3-4 HP above 4K c/w Bassani. BUT the Bassani is loud - had to add a 3" resonator which dropped about 1-2 HP on top but gained some low end torque - like a Borla!

Thats the scoop, both are good systems just slight differences. Brullen really about the same thing except 2.5" pipe better for 3L or forced induction. On 2.5L gains SAME as 2.25" pipe (also shown with SCA and CTA 2.5" systems).
