Just been reading about oil temp overheating problems in another post. As you may or may not know, I am swapping my non-svt engine for a SVT one. It has the extra oil-water oil cooler and I wasn't going to use it (as others have not) but it seems that it would be in my best intrest to use it right? Anyone know how I would go about setting that up? Is it just a pipe that needs to go into the coolant resevour tank or what? Thanks.

Definitely in your best interest to use an oil cooler. I'm not sure how hard you drive, but the increased compression in the SVT motor makes for more heat hence the need for extra cooling. I'm not sure exactly how the SVT oil cooler is set up, but you can get an aftermarket oil cooler from any speed shop. Good luck with the swap!

I think it's best!
The engine that I have came with the "extra" oil cooler that is stock on svt engines (sits inbetween the engine and the oil filter), I just have to figure out how to connect it up. Anyone know how?

Hey Simon,
My engine came with the cooler too. I had it installed at a shop, and asked them to hook it up. They told me it was just alot more hose work from the cooler to the heater core. And they didn't charge me, except for the extra hoses. If you can get ahold of a service manual, it should show the different parts needed if you want to do the work yourself.

send a PM to Terry Haines, I'm sure he can help you out.

an oil cooler is good for any engine.

Use the Oil Cooler!
Even after all day at the track, my SVT hard even changes temp!

When I get home from work, I can check the FSM and send out a Word document with all of the info to whoever is interested.

The peice in between the the filter and the block should have two hose like connections on it, one is the oil in and the other is oil out. All you do is run the in to the in side of the SVT cooler which is a tiny radiator that sits behind the big radiator. The tiny radiator as a in/out on it and you just connect the hoses, pretty simple from what I could see when helping buckshot77's engine swap. Easy and very helpful for high strung engines like the SVT.

This is NOT the way the cooler is hooked up! Those connections are WATER connections NOT OIL! The cooler is merely plumbed into the heater hose circuit. The stock SVT cooler is a water to oil cooler NOT a air to oil cooler. smile

Thats what I thought too. I am in a little bit of confusion as to this thing as I had a look at the SVT engine that I have and I can clearly see the "oil cooler" behind the oil filter (the filter screws into the cooler), I see 2 lines coming from it, one going into the water pump and one line the goes up beside the right side of the engine towards the coolant tank. I have looked at pic's of SVT engines and it seems that this pipe connects to the back of the coolant resavour tank as my tank does NOT have this extra connection on the back (V6 SE engine). It seems clear to me as to "where" this line connects, what I am confused about is "why" are people staing that more lines NEED to be ran?? Like dwh...why did a shop have to install more lines if it came with the cooler?? (maybe the lines connecting to the cooler were not provided with the engine, but it is hardley "alot more hose work"). I don't see where or the "need" for extra hoses.

Shaggy...please if you could...send me this doc you have so I can confirm this. My e-mail is britskw@hotmail.com. Thanks!

All I plan on doing is either getting an SVT's Coolant resavour tank or drilling a hole in mine and sticking this hose in (sercurley of course).

I'll see if I can take some pics of it and post them here.
