i just recently cleaned my fuel pump filters(the round one and the one inside the pump) and it made a huge difference in my car. i can actually drive the car 200 miles again and not have to fill up the tank for fear of the car missississing! also in the last 6 months i have replaced the following: starter, alternator(will actually be done next weekend),both cv joints, front and rear wheel bearings, front and rear brakes, front rotors, tires, transmisson flush, etc. so after about $1250
later the old car is riding good! i keep telling my wife that this is still cheaper than a car payment and she tells me that the car has to last to 200,000 now. 93,000 to go!

I know the feeeling!!!

Last summer it was an alternator and the steering rack.

This winter, it was an EVAP code and the state emissions test resulting in a new PCM.

Last month, it was the transmission valve body and solenoid block, a tranny cooler, LF LCA, and the left half-shaft. The tranny stuff was after driving out to Kansas City and trailering the car back home.

Last week it was the transmission mount.

Next week will be the oil pan gasket and oil/filter change unless something else breaks in the meantime.

Up to around 135K now. Wife uses this as her daily driver for her 85 mile daily round trip commute.

Yeah, it's cheaper than a car payment, still. Disgusting....

why are you so mad , you solved the fuel pump issue ?

could you tell us which way you did it : either via the back-seat or did you drop the tank !

also , did the "torx" screw patterns present any major problems to doing this yourself ?

any observations would be appreciated as i'll be attempting this very soon !

i went through the back seat and used a pair of tin snips to get to the pump and the top cover. as for the torx screw pattern i don't recall that being an issue that i ran into.
once i got the fuel line and electrical switch off i took the ring off that holds the entire assembly together and then reached into the tank and removed the pump with a counter clockwise turn. the pump came apart at the tabs and the square filter just pops off. be careful with the float as not to bend it. the other round filter is on the bottom of the pump if it came out all together otherwise look in your fuel tank to find it. if you can try to get as much gas out of the tank as possible. i used some air intake cleaner and an air compressor to clean both of the filters. if only the alternator were this easy!

How did you get the pump out? I have tried turning it CCW. It still will not pull out. Pieces are starting to break off.

Thanks

after i turned it ccw i just lifted it out of the gas tank. once i turned it it felt like a "clunk" as when something is released from pressure. are you planning on cleaning the filters or replacing the pump?
